This is the first 'smartphone' with a folding screen

The FlexPai, a combination of mobile and tablet of 7.8 inches, can be bent from 0 to 180 degrees

The Chinese company Royole showed this week at the CES 2019 fair held these days in Las Vegas (United States) the FlexPai , the first smartphone with folding screen in the world.

Royole explains in a statement that this is the first time he shows his "revolutionary fully flexible screens" at CES, something that "will highlight the virtually unlimited possibilities of flexible electronic technologies."

In statements quoted by the official newspaper China Daily, Royole's founder, Bill Liu, expressed his hope that the technology developed by his company "helps to give a new shape to the future" in sectors such as home automation, consumer electronics and wearable technology (known in English as 'wearables').

The FlexPai, officially presented in Beijing last October, is " a combination of smart phone and tablet " with which Royole seeks to "break with the traditional concept of smart phone that customers have."

Its screen, called "cicada wing", measures 7.8 inches and can be bent from 0 to 180 degrees , an operation that is capable of performing more than 200,000 times, the company adds.

With this, Royole promises that the FlexPai's screen "can not be easily broken or scratched, ending the era of broken screens on smartphones."

When not folded, the FlexPai is capable of handling split-screen and multi-tasking applications, although the company does not specify what limitations it has when folded.

The FlexPai is able to adapt to aspect ratios of 4: 3, 16: 9 and 18: 9.

The device has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 processor, two cameras of 20 and 16 megapixels, respectively .

According to the official website of the company, the sale price ranges from 1,318 dollars (1,150 euros) for the 128 gigabytes version of internal memory and 1,469 dollars (1,282 euros) for the 256.
